Shop Cocoon

Shop Cocoon located at 3345 Cambie Street has just undergone a huge renovation.  I just dropped off new stock to the revitalized store yesterday.  I am so excited and happy to be part of such a great collective of designers and missed the vibe while it was closed in January.  When I walked in the door I was greeted by a huge white washed brick wall, a gorgeous slat wall that stretches from front to back allowing for extra display.  The ceiling has been knocked out to show the lovely wood beams while creating space in the store.  The new cash desk, that I might add I was very impressed with goes nicely with the glass counter that displays the work of Fliou Designs Designs, Billy Would  and Toodle Bunny designs.  Brenda the store owner was busy getting the last few touches together before the big opening while I unpacked, sorted and perfected my display.  I look forward to working in the new Shop Cocoon Store and seeing more of the amazing and talented designers that I get to share the space with.  There will be a grand reopening party in March so stay tuned.

Sarah’s Wedding

Sarah wanted a few custom accessories for her uniquely crow themed wedding.  She had found two crystal antique brooches on a trip back east and asked if I could use them to create two black feather clips, one for her hair and one for her dress. I sure wish we had antique shops here in Vancouver, I would love to find more brooches like the ones she had found.  We also created a simple cage veil and cap sleeve shrug made from tulle to complete her look.  A big thank you Angela Hubbard for capturing such beautiful pictures of the wedding day.

Amy’s Wedding Flowers

I absolutely love getting emails from past clients who tell me how much they loved what I made for them. I made Amy silk yellow custom flowers for her bridesmaid dresses for her July wedding. They looked so good against the navy bridesmaid dresses and sashes. These signature flowers are one of my favorites and make any dress fun and whimsical.  Thank you Peggy of Lumeo Photography for taking such great photos.

“I wanted to let you know that the flowers were so perfect”  Amy

Website Photos

I have been working really hard the past few months to get the new
e-commerce website up. I am doing most of the work myself and as usually it is
taking much longer than I had hoped.  I was looking for a backdrop so that I could create continuity on the site and with the help of Erin Gilmore we found the perfect one.  I needed to get some photos up of my new products so I decided to try out the new backdrop a couple weeks ago. I used my new 50mm lens and crossed my fingers that the pictures would look ok.  We took the backdrop outside and set it up and it all worked out great
minus a few wind gusts. Shereen came out to model my work and braved the cold, yes I know it’s summer but it was still only about 12 degrees outside.  All in all it was a success and I now have lots of pictures to add to my site.  Here are a few from the day, and coming soon the new Caroline Calvert Couture Collections website.  Thank you again Erin for helping me find the backdrop and to Shereen for looking so beautiful in my creations.

Zoe’s Wedding

I had so much fun working with Zoe on her gown.  When she first came into the studio she was dead set againt lace.  Guess what, after trying on a few designs she fell in love with a full lace gown.  I always tell my cleints to keep an open mind, after all this is usually the first time for most trying on bridal gowns.  Zoe’s wedding day with filled with sunshine, and love and I was lucky to have been such a big part of her big day.

All the best to you both in your future together….

Farmhouse Photo Shoot

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Cat at Kiss My Flash Photography.  They needed some dresses and accessories for a shoot they were planning out at her friend’s horse ranch.  I love supporting local talent so after our conversation I was onboard to lend out some items for theday.  I was not planning on going but after some thought decided that I would switch my shifts around at the store so I could spend the day out and boy am I glad I did.  The ranch was out in Ladner, and I must admit I have no idea where I was going.  After
navigating the small country roads I found myself at the rustic horse ranch complete with a big red barn, groomed horses a black cat and a few roosters.  Our fun group consisted of Cali Robinson doing  make-up hair by Ivy Ly (and she did some modeling to) Shereen Alex ,Deidre Olson, Jimmy Nguyen and Nadege Lauren
modeling.  The Photographers Cat and Eugene with the help of her brother who was over visiting from overseas scouted out the lay of the land while the rest of us prepped the models and got ready for the shoot.   I just bought a 50mm lens for my camera and decided to shoot some pictures for fun but broke two of the main photography
rules… my camera card was 95% full and then the battery ran out (good thing I
don’t do this for a living).. But not before I get some great shots of the day.
I want to thank everyone for making the day so much fun and to Cat and Eugene for planning the shoot and inviting me to be a part of it.  I am looking forward to seeing the pictures “the professional “ones of the day and hopefully workingwith everyone one again sometime soon.
